Tour Overview
If you are flying into Agadir and want the real dunes of Merzouga, this is the route we recommend. The first day is the long one: inland past Taroudant, where you stop for a walk inside the ramparts, then over the Anti-Atlas through saffron country to Ouarzazate. After that the days get easier. A short drive through Skoura and the Valley of Roses gives you a free afternoon in the Dades Gorge, then Todra Gorge and the camel ride to camp in Erg Chebbi. On the way back west you sleep at Ait Ben Haddou, so you can see the ksar at sunset and again in the morning before crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass to Marrakech.

Tour Itinerary
Your driver collects you at your Agadir hotel or at Al Massira airport. The first stop is Taroudant, about 85 km inland, a market town still wrapped in its earth ramparts. Take an hour to walk the souk and the main square before the road starts to climb.
The afternoon crosses the Anti-Atlas through Taliouine, where saffron is grown, and the carpet town of Tazenakht, with stops for lunch and photos on the way. You arrive in Ouarzazate in the late afternoon for dinner and the night.
An easy day after the long one. Drive east to the palm oasis of Skoura and stop at one of its old earth kasbahs, then continue through Kelaat M’Gouna, the rose town of the valley (the roses are picked in spring).
By early afternoon you turn into the Dades Gorge. Take a walk among the red rock formations locals call the “monkey fingers”, or just sit on the terrace and watch the light change on the cliffs. Dinner and the night are at your hotel in the gorge.
After breakfast, drive to Tinghir and walk into Todra Gorge, where the cliffs close in to a few meters apart above the river. Continue through Erfoud and Rissani to Merzouga, stopping for lunch on the way.
In the late afternoon, ride a camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes and watch the sunset from the sand. Dinner is at your Sahara camp. If you’d rather not ride, we arrange a 4×4 transfer to camp.
Wake early for sunrise over the dunes, then ride back and have breakfast. Today you drive west the whole length of the oasis road, back through Tinghir, Boumalne Dades, Kelaat M’Gouna and Ouarzazate, with breaks for lunch and tea.
You reach Ait Ben Haddou in the late afternoon, in time to walk up through the ksar for sunset over the valley. Dinner and the night are at a hotel facing the ksar.
Walk through the ksar again in the quiet of the morning if you like, then start the drive over the High Atlas. The Tizi n’Tichka pass reaches 2,260 m, and the descent towards Marrakech passes Berber villages, terraced fields and walnut trees, with stops whenever you want a photo.
You reach Marrakech by early afternoon. The rest of the day is yours: Jemaa el-Fna square comes alive at dusk. A guided medina walk can be added if you would like one.
Enjoy breakfast and any free time your flight allows before your private transfer to Marrakech airport. If you’d rather fly home from Agadir, tell us before booking: the motorway drive back is about three hours, and we’ll plan the timing around your flight.

The deposit is non-refundable. If an emergency stops you from travelling, you can use it for a future trip within two years. Please contact us as soon as possible so we can explain the arrangements and any hotel cancellation conditions that apply to your booking.

We collect you at your hotel in Agadir, Taghazout or Tamraght, or at Al Massira airport. The tour ends with a transfer to Marrakech airport on day 6. A drive back to Agadir instead can be arranged before booking.
No. Taroudant is a stop of about an hour on the first morning, around 1 hour 15 minutes from Agadir. The first night is in Ouarzazate, which keeps the drive to the desert short on the following days.
Day 1 (Agadir to Ouarzazate): about 5½–6 hours of driving, plus the Taroudant stop. Day 4 (Merzouga to Ait Ben Haddou): about 6–7 hours. Day 2 is short on purpose, so you have time to rest in the Dades Gorge.

Yes. Every camp we use in Merzouga has tents with private bathrooms. In the Comfort package the tents don’t have air conditioning, while the Luxury, Premium Luxury and VIP All-Inclusive packages include air-conditioned tents.
Yes. Tell us before your trip if you would prefer a 4×4 transfer to camp, and we will confirm the arrangements and any price difference in your proposal.
The tour includes five breakfasts and four dinners: in Ouarzazate, the Dades Gorge, the Sahara camp and Ait Ben Haddou. Lunches are taken on the road at places your driver knows, and are paid locally.
