Tour Overview
This route takes you diagonally across the country, from the beaches of the south to the old imperial city of Fes. You start with an arrival night and a guided day in Agadir, then drive inland past Taroudant and over the Anti-Atlas to Ait Ben Haddou. The middle of the trip is the desert: the Valley of the Kasbahs, the Dades and Todra gorges and two nights at Merzouga, one at a camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes and one at a hotel after a 4×4 day around the area. From the Sahara you cross the Middle Atlas to Fes for three nights, with a guided day in the medina and a day trip to the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the imperial city of Meknes.
Your 10-Day Route from Agadir
The tour starts in Agadir and finishes in Fes, with nine nights: Agadir (2), Ait Ben Haddou (1), Dades Valley (1), Merzouga (2: one at a Sahara camp, one at a hotel) and Fes (3).

Tour Itinerary
Welcome to Morocco. Your driver meets you at Agadir Al Massira airport, about 25 minutes from the city, and takes you to your hotel near the beach. Rest after the flight, take a first walk along the promenade and have dinner wherever you like. If you land early, the beach is right there.

Spend the day with a local guide. Start up at Agadir Oufella, the old kasbah on the hill above the port, either by road or by the cable car. From the top you see the whole bay, and your guide will tell you how the city was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake.
Go down to the fishing port for lunch: pick your fish from the stalls and have it grilled on the spot. In the afternoon, walk around Souk El Had, the big walled market with its fruit, spices, argan oil and crafts (note that the souk is closed on Mondays, so we plan around it). Finish at the marina and along the beach promenade as the sun goes down.

After breakfast, drive inland through the Souss Valley to Taroudant, about 85 km from Agadir. Walk into the medina through its earth ramparts, see the souk and have a coffee on the square.
The road then climbs over the Anti-Atlas through Taliouine, Morocco’s saffron town, and Tazenakht, known for its carpets. Stop for lunch on the way, pass Ouarzazate and arrive at Ait Ben Haddou in the late afternoon. Dinner and the night are at a hotel facing the ksar.

Walk through the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou in the morning light, when it is quiet, then drive through Ouarzazate and east into the Valley of the Kasbahs. Stop at the palm oasis of Skoura and drive through Kelaat M’Gouna, the rose town of the valley.
In the afternoon, follow the river into the Dades Gorge and walk among its red rock formations before dinner at your hotel.

After breakfast, drive to Tinghir and walk into Todra Gorge, where the cliffs close in above the river. Continue through Erfoud and Rissani to Merzouga, stopping for lunch.
In the late afternoon, ride a camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes and watch the sunset. Dinner and the night are at your Sahara camp. If you’d rather not ride, we arrange a 4×4 transfer.

Watch the sunrise from the dunes, then have breakfast at camp. Spend the day exploring the area by 4×4 with your driver: the village of Khamlia, where Gnawa musicians play, the black desert and old mining sites, and the Rissani market on the days it is held. A local lunch is included.
Tonight you sleep at a hotel in Merzouga, with a proper shower and a pool in some packages, before the long drive north.

Leave after breakfast and follow the Ziz Valley north past Errachidia, with its palm groves in the gorge, to Midelt for lunch. Cross the Middle Atlas through the cedar forests, where Barbary macaques often wait by the road, and Ifrane, the alpine-looking town with the stone lion.
You reach Fes in the early evening. This is the longest drive of the trip, with regular stops for food and photos.

Spend the day in Fes el Bali with a local guide. Walk the lanes of the old medina, visit a historic madrasa when open, see Nejjarine square and its fountain and look down on a tannery from one of the terraces. View Al Quaraouiyine from the permitted public areas. Later, see the Royal Palace gates and the Mellah, the old Jewish quarter.
Your guide adjusts the route to opening hours, your interests and your walking pace.

Drive about an hour and a half to Volubilis, the Roman town on the plain below Zerhoun, and walk among its mosaics and columns with a local guide. Continue to Meknes, the imperial city of Moulay Ismail, to see the Bab Mansour gate and the main square.
Return to Fes in the late afternoon for your last evening.

Enjoy breakfast and any free time your flight allows before your private transfer to Fes–Saïss airport. If you are flying from Casablanca or Marrakech instead, tell us before booking and we will plan the final transfer.
