Your gateway to the south
Explore Morocco from Agadir
Agadir is where a lot of our guests land, especially on direct flights from Europe. It is also the easiest door to southern Morocco. Within a day’s drive you are in Taroudant, over the Anti-Atlas and among the kasbahs of Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou, and from there the gorges and the Sahara are close. Your driver collects you at Al Massira Airport or at your hotel in Agadir, Taghazout or Tamraght.
Every tour is private and can be changed to suit your dates, pace and hotels. Finish in Marrakech or Fes, or come back to the coast for a few more beach days. If you are still planning your stay in the city, our Agadir city guide covers the beaches, hotels and restaurants.

Local advice
Planning Tours from Agadir: Advice from Our Team
Why start in Agadir
Agadir has a big airport with direct flights from many European cities, a long sandy beach and mild weather most of the year, so it is an easy place to land and rest for a night or two. It is also the closest big city to the deep south. The road east through the Souss Valley reaches Taroudant in about an hour and a quarter, and by the end of the day you can be among the kasbahs of Ouarzazate. Starting here means you see a side of Morocco that most Marrakech itineraries skip.
Typical routes from Agadir
Most of our routes leave Agadir on the N10 through Taroudant, where we stop for a walk inside the earth ramparts, then cross the Anti-Atlas through Taliouine, the saffron town, to Ouarzazate or Ait Ben Haddou for the first night. We don’t sleep in Taroudant: going on to Ouarzazate keeps the next days short. From there the short route drops down the Draa Valley to the dunes near Zagora; the longer ones follow the Valley of the Kasbahs to the Dades and Todra gorges and the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga. Most tours then cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n’Tichka pass to Marrakech, or the Middle Atlas to Fes.

How many days you need
Agadir to Ouarzazate is about 370 km, five and a half to six hours of driving plus the Taroudant stop. Four days is enough for the Zagora dunes and Marrakech. For Merzouga, plan six days: it is another full day east of Ouarzazate. With eight or ten days you can add a guided day in Agadir at the start, a night in Marrakech, or three nights in Fes.
Arriving at Agadir Al Massira Airport
Al Massira Airport (AGA) is about 25 km southeast of the city, a 25 to 35 minute drive to the hotels along the bay, and close to the road to Taroudant. Your driver meets you at arrivals. If you are staying north of the city in Taghazout or Tamraght, allow a little longer. Read is Agadir safe? for our local take on getting around.
Best season
Agadir is mild almost all year, but the desert is another matter. October to April is the best time for the inland routes. July and August are very hot in Ouarzazate, Zagora and Merzouga, and in winter the Tizi n’Tichka pass can see snow, so we keep an eye on the forecast and adjust the day if needed.
