Morocco from Singapore and Malaysia: Flights, Best Time and Trip Ideas

How to get to Morocco from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur: flight routings, visa, time difference, money, eSIM, the best season around school holidays, halal food and 7 to 12-day routes.

Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, a first stop for many travelers from Singapore and Malaysia

There are no direct flights from Singapore or Kuala Lumpur to Morocco, but one stop in the Gulf or Istanbul gets you to Casablanca or Marrakech in about a day. Once you land, you’re in a Muslim country where the food is halal and the adhan marks the hours, which is one reason Morocco has become popular with families from Singapore and Malaysia.

This guide covers the practical side: how to fly, when to go around the school holidays, money, phones and food. If you’d like a trip planned around prayer times and halal meals, see our Muslim-friendly Morocco tours.

Last checked: November 2026. Flight schedules and entry rules change, so please confirm with your airline and the Moroccan embassy before you travel.

Flights from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur

You’ll always connect once. The usual routings are:

  • Emirates via Dubai to Casablanca.
  • Qatar Airways via Doha to Casablanca or Marrakech.
  • Etihad via Abu Dhabi to Casablanca.
  • Turkish Airlines via Istanbul to Casablanca, Marrakech and several other Moroccan cities.
  • Via a European hub such as Paris, Madrid or London, then on to Morocco with Royal Air Maroc or a low-cost airline. Useful if you want a few days in Europe first.

Allow roughly 18 to 24 hours door to door, depending on the connection. Casablanca has the most flights; Marrakech is the better arrival point if your trip starts in the south. Flying into one city and out of the other saves a long drive back.

One thing to know for 2026–27: Gulf airlines have run reduced schedules at times this year because of airspace restrictions in the region. Check your flight status a few days before you fly, consider a flexible fare, and keep Istanbul in mind as an alternative hub. Travel insurance that covers delays is worth having.

Pairing Morocco with umrah? Royal Air Maroc flies between Casablanca and Saudi Arabia, so you can add Morocco before or after your umrah.

Visa: quick answer

Singapore and Malaysia passport holders don’t need a visa for a tourist stay of up to 90 days. You get a stamp on arrival, with nothing to apply for in advance. Aim for six months of passport validity. Our full guide, Do I need a visa to visit Morocco?, covers the details and other passports in your group.

Time difference

Morocco moved to GMT all year round on 20 September 2026, so it no longer changes the clocks in summer or for Ramadan. Singapore and Malaysia are 8 hours ahead: when it’s 6 pm in Singapore, it’s 10 am in Marrakech. After an overnight journey, plan a slow first day.

Money and payments

The currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). You can’t buy much of it before you leave, so most people use an ATM at the airport and in the cities. Exchange bureaux readily change euros and US dollars; Singapore dollars and ringgit are much harder to change, so bring euros or dollars as a backup. Hotels and bigger shops take cards, but souks, cafés, taxis and tips are cash. Let your bank know you’re traveling.

SIM cards and eSIM

Morocco has three networks: Maroc Telecom, Orange and inwi. You can buy a prepaid SIM at the airport or in town; bring your passport, as SIMs are registered. If your phone supports it, an international eSIM bought before you fly is the easiest option. Coverage is good in cities and on main roads, and patchier in the High Atlas and the Sahara.

Best time to go, and the school holidays

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best months: warm days, cool nights and green valleys in spring. Summer is very hot inland, often near 40°C in Marrakech and Fes and hotter in the Sahara. Winter days are sunny and mild in the cities, but desert nights drop close to freezing and the High Atlas gets snow. Read more in the best time to visit Morocco.

Singapore school holidays 2027

  • March break (13–21 March): one of the best weeks of the year to visit, and it falls just after Hari Raya Puasa.
  • June holidays (29 May–27 June): hot inland. Start sightseeing early, keep the Sahara short, and add the Atlantic coast, where Essaouira stays fresh.
  • September break (4–12 September): warm, with the summer crowds gone.
  • Year-end holidays (20 November–31 December): great for the cities and the desert by day; pack warm layers for the camp at night.

Malaysia

Malaysian schools are back on a January-to-December year, and the official 2027 holiday dates had not been published when we checked in November 2026. The year-end and mid-year breaks are usually the best windows for a 10 to 12-day trip. Check the KPM academic calendar before you book.

Ramadan 2027

Ramadan is expected to start around 8 February 2027, with Eid al-Fitr around 9 or 10 March. Traveling in Ramadan is possible and can be very special, but days are slower and some restaurants close until sunset. Our Muslim-friendly tours page explains what changes.

Halal food

Meat in Morocco is halal as a matter of course, so you won’t need to look for certificates. The things to check are alcohol, which bigger hotels and some restaurants serve, and the odd French-style dish cooked with wine. We can choose restaurants that don’t serve alcohol at all.

What to eat: a slow-cooked tagine, couscous on Friday, harira soup, msemen pancakes at breakfast and sweet mint tea at every stop. Our guide to Moroccan dishes has many more.
